- Customizable keyboards and expanded language options enhance usability, user efficiency

SALT LAKE CITY, May 1, 2013 (ANTARA/PRNewswire) -- Wavelink, a LANDesk Software business unit (www.wavelink.com), today announced expanded features for Wavelink Terminal Emulation (TE) version 1.3.5 for Android, including the addition of support for double-byte character languages and customization options for soft input panel (SIP) keyboards. Utilized on more than four million devices around the globe, Wavelink TE provides reliable access for mobile users to host applications and enables enterprises to manage and scale business critical applications on mobile devices, ensuring end-users always have the tools they need to get their job done.

According to Forrester's David Johnson, quoted in a recent Network World article, in applications where the device needs to be fully ruggedized, Android is preferred because manufacturers can build the devices precisely to suit the need. With this latest release of TE, Wavelink is expanding Android's flexibility with the addition of customizable SIP keyboards, as well as bringing the platform to Asia-Pacific warehouse users with the support for double-byte character languages.

"Every warehouse is different, even within the same company," said Mikkel Storm, principle product manager at Wavelink. "These new features make it possible for that uniqueness to extend even farther, letting application developers for companies of all sizes create a complete customized application workflow within individual warehouses. One of the best parts about Android is how flexible the platform can be and we wanted to extend that customization even further in a way that would improve end user efficiency."

The addition of customizable SIP keyboards eliminates the need to toggle between different command and control keyboards, allowing application developers to combine the most frequently used keys together in one place. This will enable end users to work more efficiently with a more workflow-friendly keyboard interface.

The Asia-Pacific region has been slow to adopt ruggedized devices, due to the high cost of most devices. However, Android devices are typically more cost-effective and TE support for the double-byte character languages used in the Asia-Pacific region makes it easier for the Android platform to be adopted by businesses in that area.

"Android is a very valuable platform for this industry, because it has a lot of customization options," said Storm. "By adding support for the platform in the Asia-Pacific region, we're giving customers in this part of the world the option to preserve their existing infrastructure investment, while still providing them with a clear, easy and inexpensive path to a more efficient application workflow. Terminal Emulation is rapidly growing in adoption worldwide and within task worker operations. By adding customization options that make it easier to implement in a wider variety of regions, we're facilitating TE's continued growth."
